On-Line Application
APPLY ONLINE. POSTMARK DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION AND REQUIRED MATERIALS IS JANUARY 5, 2010.
Admissions decisions will be based on the applicant's portfolio, academic records, statement of objectives, and references. You may be admitted to the MFA program upon completion of the BFA degree or equivalent academic preparation.
Specific requirements include: 15 to 18 credits of Art History, grade point average above 3.0, and good writing skills. Applications, with all supporting materials, are due January 5 of the academic year preceding that in which study is to begin. There are no mid-year admissions.
Required application materials
- Graduate School of Art Online Application Form
- Three letters of recommendation from instructors and/or professionals
familiar with the applicant's work submitted through the online application system - Official transcripts of all post-secondary academic and art studies
- 20 images/samples of time-based media on a Mac OS formatted CD/DVD. Include an additional duplicate disk. Place each disk in a sleeve; your full name must be legible on each disk & sleeve. Still images must be formatted as jpegs; NO presentation programs please. Time-based media must be in QuickTime.
- Separate image identification sheet (with artist name and any pertinent information)
- A succinct and articulately written statement of objectives for graduate study that includes information pertinent to the applicant's work
- A Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Seventy-five dollar ($75) application fee payable to Washington University in St. Louis
- A self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of slides, video, or disk
Applicants for the Mr. and Mrs. Spencer T. Olin Fellowships for Women and applicants for the Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship must submit separate applications. Admissions and awards of financial aid are for the specific academic year, but accepted applicants may request deferment of admission for up to one year.

International Applications
Applicants for whom English is not the native language must submit a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 or higher (score of 213 or higher on computer test) in order to obtain admission to the MFA program. Specific instructions regarding the necessary financial documentation for visa purposes is included with admission letters.
