May 18, 2017
Graham Chapel

The College & Graduate School of Art Recognition Ceremony features the presentation of candidates for the Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, and acknowledgement of students receiving honors, prizes, and awards. The ceremony begins at 8p in Graham Chapel.

This year's Commencement Speaker is Cheree Berry, BFA00, the founder and creative director of Cheree Berry Paper, a graphic design firm with stationer roots. Founded in 2007, the firm is known for its playful design sensibility, clever copywriting and unexpected invitation formats. Berry has been recognized as a stationery expert by both New York Weddings and Martha Stewart Weddings, and is an ongoing contributor to Martha Stewart Weddings. Prior to starting Cheree Berry Paper, Berry was an associate art director at kate spade in New York. Before kate spade, she worked at the premier design firm, Pentagram, after graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis. Berry is on the board of the Saint Louis Fashion Fund and the Saint Louis Ballet. She lives in Clayton with her husband and three children.

Other speakers include:

Graduate Student Speaker: Kari Elizabeth Varner, MFA17
Undergraduate Student Speaker: Madeleine Marie Gibson, BFA17/BA17

Diplomas for graduating art students are distributed during a separate reception May 19 on Steinberg Hall Terrace, immediately following the All-University Commencement Ceremony.
