2017 Architecture Commencement Ceremony

The 2017 College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design Commencement Ceremony takes place immediately after the All-University Commencement Ceremony, and is followed by a reception. In the event of severe weather, the ceremony will take place in Steinberg Hall Auditorium, with a reception following in Givens Hall; updates on the severe weather plan will be posted to the Commencement website by 7a on the morning of Commencement.

This year's Commencement Speaker is Ann Rolland, FAIA, BA80/MArch82. Rolland is a principal and studio director for the internationally renowned architecture firm FXFOWLE in New York City. She describes her approach to architecture as "creative logic," blending astute analytical and organizational skills with creativity and spirit. She is currently the project director for the new Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island. Other recently completed projects include a major addition and renovation to the Ramaz School on Manhattan's Upper East Side and the Hunter's Point Campus school in Long Island City, Queens.

Rolland is chairperson of the Ambassador Council of NEW (Nontraditional Employment for Women), an organization that trains women and places them in careers in the skilled construction, utility, and maintenance trades. She is the co-chair of the AIA New York Chapter’s Committee on Education, a member of the Society of Campus and University Planners, an advisory board member for the Department of Architectural Technology at the New York City College of Technology, and an adjunct professor in the Department of Urban Design and Architecture Studies at New York University.
