March 5, 2018
5p Reception, 5:30p Lecture
Steinberg Auditorium

Artist Victoria Vesna, professor at the UCLA Department of Design Media Arts and director of the UCLA Art|Sci Center, will deliver an MFA Lecture Series talk titled Being in Between Two Cultures: Liminality of Art Science Collaborations in conjunction with this year's Graduate School of Art Open House.

With her installations, Vesna investigates how communication technologies affect collective behavior and perceptions of identity shift in relation to scientific innovation (PhD, University of Wales, 2000). Her work involves long-term collaborations with composers, nano-scientists, neuroscientists, and evolutionary biologists, and she brings this experience to students. Vesna has exhibited her work in more than 20 solo exhibitions and more than 70 group shows, has been published in more than 20 papers, and has given more than 100 invited talks in the last decade.
