The project brings together two communities to practice collaborative visual learning in a new way. WashUCity connects Washington University juniors and seniors in communication design with sophomores, juniors and seniors in graphic design at University City High School. Under faculty supervision, Washington University students devise and teach a curriculum that develops visual skills in form, methodology, and technology for application in a wide variety of contexts. Through repeated, close interactions with college students and emphasis on formal and visual problem-solving skills, this design partnership presents high school students with an exciting set of possibilities for their futures — in communication design and beyond.
