Andréa Stanislav, the 2015-16 Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellow, will deliver a public lecture in conjunction with the opening of her Currents series exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum.

Stanislav is highly engaged with interdisciplinary, multimedia, and traditional art practices, basing all aspects of her work and teaching around an integrated, pluralistic approach to making and thinking about art. In her cross-disciplinary practice in sculpture, installation, video, sound, and public projects, she seeks to stretch the boundaries of contemporary discourse. She is also an associate professor of sculpture in the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

Stanislav's work has also has been featured at: the 2013 Moscow Biennial, Moscow, Russia; the U.S (Ambassador's) Residence, Stockholm, Sweden; Fieldgate Gallery, London, UK; the Non-Conformist Museum of Contemporary Art, St. Petersburg, Russia; Al Sabah Gallery, Kuwait City, Kuwait; Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, Northern Ireland; Socrates Sculpture Park, New York, NY; and John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI. Stanislav's work is represented by The Cynthia Corbett Gallery, London, UK; Melissa Morgan Gallery, Palm Desert, CA; and K35 Gallery, Moscow, Russia.

Honors include a 2014 and 2015 Art-Centre Pushkinskaya-10 St. Petersburg International Residency Award (St. Petersburg, Russia), the 2015 Target Studio Artist in Residence, a 2012 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Swing Space Residency Award, and a 2010/2011 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Visual Artists.

Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellowship

Established in 1995, the Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellowship promotes the exhibition and acquisition of contemporary art at the Saint Louis Art Museum, as well as the teaching of contemporary art principles in the Sam Fox School. Each fellowship consists of two monthlong residencies, during which recipients teach in the Graduate School of Art and prepare an exhibition for the Museum's Currents series. Recent Freund Fellows include Ellen Gallagher, Matthew Buckingham, Cameron Martin, Angelina Gualdoni, Sarah Oppenheimer, Claudia Schmacke, Bruce Yonemoto, Ian Monroe, Chelsea Knight, Renata Stih and Frieder Schnock, Won Ju Lim, and Mariam Ghani.
